Murders are being committed where the victim is in a room locked from the inside.
The head of the FBI investigation is a former Academy friend of Scully. He asks Scully to look at the case with Mulder to see if they can get a profile of the murderer.
Mulder is convinced the murders are committed by someone that has been murdering 5 people every 30 years since at least 1933.
Mulder has read about this in the X-Files. The head of the investigation does not want to hear this theory.
Scully must make a choice between a good reputation with her peers who are on a fast track to promotion and Mulder who’s crazy theories are a constant joke.
Mulder’s theory proves correct when they find a retired investigator that seems to agree with Mulder’s ideas about the murders being committed by the same person, Eugene Tooms.
Mulder’s great line occurs when they find Eugene Tooms’ nest:
“Is there any way I can get this off my fingers quickly, without betraying my cool exteriorâ€
The other investigator interferes with Sully’s and Mulder’s own investigation. He calls off the stakeout of Tooms’ hideout. Tooms has then targeted Scully to be is next victim.
This is the first non-UFO case we see in the X-Files.
hese none conspiracy episodes are well done and provide the fill for the episodes that are part of the main story arc. The X-Files are no longer just about UFO’s but about the monsters booth real and imagined that exist in a world that denies their existence.
It seems by now the actors are comfortable with their characters and the show is really starting to excel. The X-Files has turned into a great show.
