The X-Files Season One DVD Three : Space

Season One Disc Three

Space

A reporter is interviewing a NASA official after a recent satellite flyby of Mars.

She comments that many people see a face sculpted into the terrain of Mars and think it is proof of life on Mars. The official comments that it is just a trick of light and shadows.

The next scene shows a former astronaut in his bed.

He is thinking of a moment during a space walk that he saw something in space. As, he stars at the ceiling, a face forms on the ceiling. It is the face on Mars.

A shuttle mission is aborted at the last second.

A NASA employee believes there has been sabotage and there is an attempt to hide it. Mulder’s natural interest in the space program makes him willing to take on the investigation.

There is a question about the validity of the evidence for sabotage. Mulder and Scully stay to watch the liftoff the next day.

After a flawless launch they leave thinking all is ok.

The person who contacted them earlier catches them to tell them something has gone wrong. They follow her back to NASA.

On the way, while driving in the rain, their contact see the face come at her on the road and has an accident.

Someone is interfering with communications with the orbiter.

They cannot get the space shuttle to change its direction. Because of the jamming, the astronauts must take control themselves while all contact to the shuttle is cut off. Luckily, it works.

The story told to the press is that all went well.

No mention of the problems. Is there someone sabotaging the mission and the space program or not.

There are more problems with the shuttle.

Can they get the shuttle down before the astronauts run out of oxygen? Who or what is causing the problems? Has something also taken control of Colonel Belt, the head of the space program?

This episode of the X-Files questions what really goes on in space with the astronauts. Is there something that they experience that the rest of us do not know about? My question would be: Why do astronauts seem to have so many health problems back on earth? Look at how many of the first astronauts have already died. I met James Erwin a bit before he died. They all were in such good health.
