Miracle Man

The scene of a fire, someone has died in the flames.

A preacher and young boy approach a dead body. The boy touched the dead man and tells him to rise up. They continue after the Fire Chief interrupts. The dead man takes the boy’s hand. 

The FBI has been called in to investigate fraud and possible murder in the Reverend Calvin Hartley’s miracle ministry.

Scully shows Mulder a video of a service where a participant dies just after the now older boy (Samuel) has touched her. The local sheriff believes the ministry is a fraud. Now with a possible murder, he has asked the Feds for help in closing it down.

Mulder is familiar with the Reverend, his ministry, and Samuel. Mulder has been keeping track of him at the X-Files. Samuel performs miracles daily “twice on Sunday.” In fact, the man who was dead is a regular feature in the services. An X-Files investigation into the murder is begun.

Is the boy responsible for the deaths?

Is he for real? Who is responsible for the deaths if the boy is not? The believers will not allow an autopsy.

The sheriff’s wife has been a victim of a very painful disease, yet his unbelief has kept him from letting Samuel heal her. This is despite Samuel’s apparent true gift.

Because of the deaths, Samuel believes he has sinned or become the source of the deaths. He has run off. When he is found, he all but confesses. Yet, Mulder does not think he is guilty. Unfortunately, someone does thing Samuel needs to be stopped.

The deaths do turn out to be murder.

The identity and motive of the killer are a surprise you will have to watch yourself to find out. The sheriff will also pay for his sins and unfortunately his wife will also pay for his unbelief.

Not one of my favorite episodes of the X-Files, I do not care for church services that look like a game show.
